More details about the Workshop.
The course is ideal for students who have been practicing yoga regularly, who have a few months experience and want to try something new.
Discover how to prepare your body and mind for both the simple and more challenging arm balances and inversions, and to approach them with confidence in your practice.
Traditional Headstand, Tripod headstand, find out how to build these poses safely, overcome fears and discover the power of your core.
We’ve all experienced that finding your balance when you’re upright can be tricky, But when was the last time you tried to balance upside down, if you are like me before I started yoga it would have bene when I was about 10 on the school field.
Inversions are important to your health. On mental and emotional levels, overcoming fears, trusting in your own abilities and trying new things are lessons which can be applied to life. Psychologically, they allow us to see things from an alternate perspective. Emotionally, they guide the energy of the pelvis (the energy of creation and personal power) toward the heart center, enabling self-exploration and inner growth. Physically, they stimulate the immune and endocrine systems, thereby invigorating and nourishing the brain and the organs. When done correctly, inversions also release tension in the neck and the spine. By reversing the flow of gravity you will feel refreshed, find balance and gain more confidence in your inversion practice.
This workshop will give you the guidance and confidence to challenge yourself and give you tools to take back into class with you. In this session you will learn how to stabilise your base, engage the shoulder girdle, access your core and be free from fear. These muscles groups will allow you to hold headstand for an extended period of time without feeling any pressure in the neck.
For general guidance on how to prepare yourself for the workshop (what to wear, eating, what to bring etc.)
Make sure you attend the workshop on a fairly empty stomach. Give yourself digestion time after eating, at least 1-1.5 hours, and also eat something light. E.g. have breakfast around 8am.
Please a bottle of water and something warm like a light shawl/blanket/sweater (to keep you warm during meditation, breathing exercises and during final relaxation).
This workshop is open to intermediate levels. More gentle variations will be available for individuals, and as always the option to rest!
